Foroyaa did report that the President had indicated that structures established in violation of the law will be demolished and had affirmed in Brikama that people should obey the law.
Yesterday, the president had a meeting in Tanji. Prior to the meeting the demolition of the structures that were allegedly constructed without authorisation led to an incident which Foroyaa is thoroughly investigating because of false rumours which are associated with it.
The paper would like to inform those with small and medium enterprises who conduct businesses on sidewalks to save themselves from destruction of property and arrest and prosecution and go to sites which are acceptable under the law. To fail to do so may lead unnecessary suffering.
The councils should see this as an opportunity to provide markets and kiosks in collaboration with the physical planning office and the roads authority so that the people who should be served by central and local governments will not find it difficult to run their small and medium size businesses under the ambit of the law.
