QUESTION OF THE DAY

THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY TOO, WHEN WILL IT BE DISSOLVED?

The election or assumption of a new president does not mean that the National Assembly will discontinue. According to the Constitution, the current National Assembly will continue to function until the first sitting of the newly elected members in four months’ time.

It states in section 99(1) that, “Subject to the provisions of this section, the National Assembly shall stand dissolved on the day immediately preceding the day appointed in accordance with section 97 for the first session of the next following the National Assembly.”

The appointed day will be fixed by the president who will be the president elect Adama Barrow.
