Financing elections also should not be a problem In 2006 Presidential elections only three Candidates participated. In 2011 only three Candidates participated. In many countries dozens of political parties exist. No one could stop this because the people have their right to freedom of political association .The alibi that the IEC is wasting resources on some parties has no foundation. Candidates pay deposits and provide symbols and pictures and deposits are lost for bad performance. The IEC is not in the same wave length with the political parties. What the ruling party is telling Gambians is that they could come and establish parties and contest elections instead of using force. This is the wrong time to be talking about deregistering parties. In the same vein, a government which could spend 86 million dalasis on national celebrations should not have difficulty in funding elections. ]]>
