The danger of being at the wrong place at the wrong time Non political arrestees

112

As demonstrators led by Mr. Solo Sandeng came face to face with the paramilitary forces few curious people who could not leave the scene were also arrested.

Arrest of people who were on the sidewalk also continued when the UDP leader and his executive were put under custody.

Many families are beginning to approach Foroyaa to explain how their loved ones were picked up even though they were not part of any demonstration or procession.

This is the danger of collective punishment of a population.

Many people are put under arrest and detention who cannot be linked to any crime. Collective punishment is unjust and makes victims hold grievances against those who perpetrate such crimes.

It is surprising that up to today a list of all those who have been detained has not been produced by the authorities. This list is essential.

Foroyaa has been and will continue to follow this matter until the right thing is done.

People under detention are helpless because of the walls which surround them.

The law aiming to protect them has been violated by the authorities by not releasing the detainees or taking them to court after 72 hours.

We have also been searching the mortuaries to find out whether there are any dead detainees but to no avail.

We will continue with our search to validate the information we are receiving.

All Gambians should not want injustice to be perpetrated against anyone.
