Serekunda East who were barred from reaching the final by neighbours Serrekunda West in the semis of The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Super Nawettan Championship 2022 have emerged third in the competition after thrashing Sanyang three goals to nil on Friday, December 30, 2022.
The match, which was played at East’s Mini Stadium, was a second go for both teams as they first met in their opener during the group stages at the same venue, where Sanyang left it late to stun the hosts with a 1-0 defeat.
Both teams played a goalless draw in the first-half. Upon resumption in the second-half, substitutes Alagie Wally, Assan Jallow and Bala Lowe put their names on the scoresheet to secure their side the victory and put forth a revenge over the Kombo South based team.
East went home with bronze medals and pocketed D100, 000. The East boys wait to add another super nawettan trophy continues five years on, as their last triumph was in 2018 when they defeated Brikama 4-3 on penalty shootouts following a 1-1 draw at regulation time.
