Haruna Gassama, the current President of the Central River Rice
Farmers’ Cooperative Ltd, who was arrested on Monday 2nd March 2015 at Brikamaba in the Central River Region (CRR), is being detained at the National Intelligent Agency (NIA) in Banjul, according to a family source.Mr. Gassama was arrested on the day the staff of the Sheriff
Division were in Brikamaba to execute a judgment order made by
Justice Penda Dibba on the 12th January 2015 in favour of the
plaintiff (Haruna Gassama and his committee).
According to the judgment, the defendants, comprising Alhagi Musa
Gimbo Trawally and his committee, are ordered to hand over forthwith
the affairs and assets of the Rice Farmers Cooperative Society LTD to
the duly elected executive i.e. Haruna Gassama and his committee. It
further ordered the defendants (Alhagi Musa Gimbo Trawally and his
committee) to give a true and proper account of the financial state
and assets of the Society and have further restrained each of them
from holding out as members of the executive committee and from
continuing to act in such capacity during the term of the new
executive, among others.
The family source told this reporter “after missing him for 23 days
without any trace, we now know that our loved one is being detained at
the NIA office in Banjul but we are yet to have access to him.”]]>
