Mr Mambury Njie, the former Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs,
who was arrested and held in detention since 9 October 2014, is still
hospitalized under guard at the Serekunda General Hospital.
The former state minister has been detained for more than 72 hours
without being charged or released which is in gross violation ofSection 19(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia which
states “Any person who is arrested or detained ….. and who is not
released, shall be brought without undue delay before a court and, in
any event, within seventy-two hours.”
Mr. Njie, who was detained at the National Intelligence Agency Office (NIA)
in Banjul, has been in hospital since 28 November (last year) and is
being guarded by NIA operatives.
A close family source said they are calling on the state to secure the
release of their loved one whose long and continuous detention is
impacting negatively on his immediate young family.]]>
