RICE FARMERS’ PRESIDENT IN DETENTION FOR 72 DAYS

Abdoulie G. Dibba Today Tuesday 12th May 2015 marks 72 days since Haruna Gassama’s arrest and Haronadetention. Haruna Gassama, the current President of the Central River Rice Farmers’ Cooperative Ltd who was arrested since on Monday 2nd March 2015 at Brikamaba in the Lower Fulladou District Central River Region South of the Republic of the Gambia, has now spent 72 days in detention at the National Intelligent Agency Headquarters in Banjul without court appearance. Haruna was arrested on the day that the staff of the Sheriff Division were in the Lower Fulladu District executing the order of the Judgment delivered by the High Court on the 12th of January 2015 in favour of the plaintiffs Haruna Gassama and his committee in which it ordered the defendants Alhagi Musa Gimbo Trawally and his committee to forthwith hand over the affairs and assets of the Rice Farmers Cooperative Society Ltd to the duly elected Executive of the Rice Farmers Cooperative Society Ltd (Haruna Gassama and his committee); give a true and proper account of the financial state and assets of the Rice Farmers Cooperative Society Ltd and the defendants (Alhagi Musa Gimbo Trawally and his committee) are each restrained from holding out themself to be members of the Executive committee of Rice Farmers Cooperative Society LTD and from continuing to act in such capacity during the term of the new Executive (Haruna Gassama and his committee) among others. A family source informed this reporter that their loved one is still detained at the NIA Office in Banjul but they are yet to have access to him and are not aware of any charge preferred against him or his appearance in court. The family source appealed to the head of state to intervene for their love one to be released.]]>
