POLICE YOUTH RELATION

The national security adviser and the national intelligence agency should do a study on the situation of young people who are being deported to find out how they are faring in The Gambia upon their return.

Youth unemployment is very high in the country. Government is also taking very stringent measures to prevent young people from taking the back way to Europe. Hence many young people are now in a trap.

Government should therefore create programmes to be able to occupy the young people in productive ventures so as to prevent any tension between them and law enforcement agencies. As we go to press, 23 youths have been arraigned before a magistrate. Conducting frequent raids to arrest young people to take them before court for disorderly conduct and nuisance is not the solution.

The solution is to be able to conduct investigation to find out their challenges and to be able to address them.
