A TENSE MOMENT IN SENEGAL AS PRESIDENT MACKY SALL VISITS GAMBIA TODAY

290

It is not the best of moments to welcome a president while the nation he governs is in a very tense state because of the incarceration of a political leader.

Foroyaa is still trying to find out the circumstances which led to the current charges against a potential presidential candidate, Ousmane Sonko. Readers would recall that after a court conviction on a charge sighted as ‘corruption of the young’ his home was barricaded until last week when the Senegalese courts seem to have created peace by ordering the removal of the barricades.

Since then conspiracy theories have been hatched as to what could happen. The incarceration of Ousmane Sonko is the least expected at this time.

Now, hopes of dialogue between President Macky Sall and presidential hopeful Ousmane Sonko appear remote. Violence followed the detention of Sonko and three lives have already been lost as we go to press.

We therefore hope that in the interest of the stability of Senegal that President Macky Sall undertakes a dialogue with Ousmane Sonko that would have a positive impact in Senegal.
