The Gambia Police Force has on Wednesday granted bail to five suspects who were arrested by Police for allegedly stealing gallons of fuel from the National Water & Electric Company branch in Basse.

Police spokesperson, ASP Lamin Njie said: “Five individuals have been arrested and are currently helping the police in their investigations. They have been granted bail.’’

According to police spokesperson ASP Lamin Njie, the suspects were arrested on 30th April 2020 after state security agents received a tip-off about a vehicle heading to Fatoto carrying some contrabands. He said this was when the state agents acted on the information they received and followed the vehicle, and immediately intercepted it at Simoto-Touba village, where he added the vehicle was found carrying 71 containers each containing 20 litters of diesel.

Njie said the driver of the vehicle was arrested and questioned by Police. He added preliminary investigations revealed that the gallons of fuel were stolen from the NAWEC branch in Basse.
