The Kombo East District Youth Committee together with the Pirang Youth Development Association in partnership with ST Environment Awards, during the weekend embarked on a tree planting exercise by planting 50 seedlings at a forest reserve in Pirang.
The tree planting exercise was attended by members of Pirang VDA, Kombo East District Youth Committee and members of ST Environment Award.
As inscribed in their Constitution, it is part of the responsibilities of Pirang youth to plant seedlings and ensure their protection in order to contribute to the preservation of the natural habitat, in the fight against the devastating impact of climate change in the area.

Abdoulie Njie, the Chairperson of Kombo East Youth Committee said the tree planting exercise is part of the program of the association not only to beautify the environment, but to sustain the forest.

“We are told that water is life and for us to have enough rainfall, we should have good forests. However, many of our forests are now turned to farmlands and this is not helpful,” he said.

Njie said his committee embarks on such tree planting exercises yearly in different forests within Kombo East and the trend will continue.

“We want to ensure that Kombo East has thick forests in order to preserve our wildlife,” he said.

He commended the Youth of Pirang village and members of KEYCDA for their participation in the exercise.
