This column is devoted to monitor and report on issues that are relating to production, processing, 
preservation and marketing of Agricultural products with the ultimate goal of ensuring food security in the Gambia as well as the interventions of Government and Non-governmental Organizations.
As part of the then Deputy Minister of Agriculture,Ousman Jammeh and entourage’s six days tour of the farming communities, six completed Mix Farming Centres worth over D70 Million were handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture and then to the department of Agriculture for onward transmission to the Regional Directorates of Agriculture for proper utilization to ensure food self-sufficiency.
Delivering statements during the handing over ceremony, Sait Drammeh, former Director General of Agriculture said the newly rehabilitated mixed farming centers are all funded by the government of the Gambia under the leadership of president Jammeh and are expected to be used for animal husbandry and crop production as well as seeds breeding.
He tasked all the staff to use the structures wisely to achieve the needed objective of vision 2016.
Speaking at Bakindiki, Mustapha Saidy the Deputy Governor of the North Bank Region described the people of Bakindiki as hardworking people noting that this centre will serve as an instrumental avenue to the ministry of agriculture and will boost food production in the North Bank Region. He advised the beneficiaries to ensure the effective utilization of the facility.
The Former Permanent secretary Ministry of agriculture FalaloTouray urged all the beneficiary communities to take up the established centres as a school from where they can learn new techniques and approaches to produce better yields.
According to him, the Agricultural workers who are stationed at the centers should serve as role models to farmers.
Speaking on the occasion,Former Deputy Minister Jammeh said the government spent over 70 million dalasis on the facilities in their drive to ensure that the country attains food self-sufficiency and that no individual in this country go to bed hungry.
