Musa Sonko, the deputy leader of the National Reconciliation Party (NRP) is currently held under police custody, the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Lamin Njie confirmed to Foroyaa.

PRO Njie said Mr. Sonko’s detention is, allegedly, in connection with his refusal to surrender a vehicle that belongs to his party.

“He is arrested in connection to a letter written by the party to the police that he is in possession of the party vehicle and he is reluctant to hand it,” the police PRO explained.

Mr Sonko, who is also an executive member of the coalition 2016 finance committee, was arrested yesterday, Wednesday. He is held at the Kairaba Police Station.

The Police PRO also said they are investigating the matter as at now and charges would be pressed against him after the investigation.

Mr Sonko told Foroyaa that his arrest was politically motivated.

Mr Sonko recently told a local radio that his party leader, Hamat Bah, was planning to hand over their party to President Adama Barrow.

However, Sonko’s claim was denied by the party’s leadership.
