English Championship side Norwich City’s youngster and latest Scorpion recruit Ebou Adams reveals he was bewildered over receiving invitation to play for Gambia so soon.
The 21-year-old is one of three fresh faces included in the Gambia national team due to slug it out with Morocco’s fringe players’ side in a friendly match this month.
A defensive midfielder also capable of adapting to unfamiliar roles, Adams is already at the Kenzi Farah Hotel where the team is camped and will be hoping to compete Sulayman Marreh for a place in middle of the park.
But for now, the excitement about mixing it with much experienced players gloats above the surface.
‘I was shocked and over the moon because not everyone has the chance to play for your national team.
‘It’s a good chance for me to play for my country and I am really happy to come on board,’ he tells the Gambia Football Federation.
Born in England, Adams qualifies to play for Gambia through his parents who are both from the West African nation.
The arrival of Ebou slightly makes up for GFF’s loss of John Gomez to England’s senior team this week.
‘I am coping very well with the rest of the players. They have welcomed me with open arms especially the senior ones and we are all a family. I feel at home and everyone in the camp is friendly and relaxed.
‘I intend to bring energy, power and desire to play for my country and I will do everything possible whatever the result,’ he says.
The youngster’s call-up followed his loan departure to Shrewsbury Town FC where he’d made five appearances for the table-topping English third tier.
The 21-year-old joined Norwich’s Development team from Dartford on a two-year deal last year and sees featuring for Gambia a stepping stone in the path to carve his career.
