By Nelson Manneh Vendors at the new Tipper Garage market on the Bakoteh highway, over the weekend, complained about the closure of their toilets due to the disconnection of the taps at the facility. This reporter yesterday, 31 August, 2015 visited the said market and found out that the toilets are all closed and there was no running water from the taps. One of the vendors, Madam Sanyang, said they do not have access to their toilets for a number of days now and are compelled to go to nearby compounds to answer to nature’s call. ‘’Sometimes when you go to certain compounds you find it very difficult to use their toilets as the conditions you find them are unbearable,’’ she lamented. Speaking to the Assistant Market Manager, Mr. Senghor, he said the taps were closed during the week by the National Water and Electrical Company (NAWEC). He revealed that when they went to discuss with them (NAWEC), they insisted that the bill for this month has to be paid. He, however, noted that since they started operating, they have always been paying their bills on time. According to the assistant market manager, they have always been reminded about the payment by NAWEC before the end of every month but that this time round they failed to do so and proceeded to disconnect all the taps. “We cannot use the toilets while the taps are not working since all the toilets are flush toilets and we all know that you cannot use a flush toilet without water and that is why we’ve closed them,” Mr. Senghor said. He added that it is the Kanifing Municipal Council [KMC] and Fisheries that normally sign for the payment of bills. The assistant market manager said they are promised that the taps will be re-connected before the end of the day to enable the toilets to function again.]]>
