The National Assembly Member for Serrekunda Constituency Musa Cham, has embarked on a site visit to vulnerable communities of Serrekunda London Corner and ‘Farokono’ respectively during the weekend.

The visitation to these vulnerable communities came after two days of heavy downpours which resulted in many compounds getting inundated.

According to Cham, a tragic death occurred in his Constituency after a special needs teenager drowned in the stream of Farokono.

“The then Vice President Dr. Isatou Touray, came to the site with a delegation from different Ministries and promised to take the matter to Cabinet. I also remembered that the former National Assembly Member for Serrekunda Halifa Sallah, once asked the then Minister of Works about what solutions were put in place for the community of ‘Farokono’,” Cham recollected.

According to Cham, when Sallah raised the issue with Bai Lamin Jobe, the Minister of Works at the time responded that the construction of the said bridge was factored in their 2020 budget, with one in ‘Farokono’ and the other one in Dippakunda.

“In my humble capacity as the National Assembly Member for Serrekunda, I urge the responsible authorities to be more proactive. The Ministry of Works, National Roads Authority and Kanifing Municipal Council should visit the affected communities and come up with lasting solutions for this dire situation,” Cham appealed; that he has also made follow-ups with the National Roads Authority and one of the Directors briefed him that the two bridge designs are complete.

“Despite the design of the two bridges being complete, residents of ‘Farokono’ are yet to see the construction of the said bridges. This is unacceptable to my community and the taxpayers of Serrekunda,” he noted.
