With six games to draw shut the curtain in the national domestic league, the race for the golden boot is no 
two-horse race and is proving spicy.
After sixteen matches played so far, some goal-getters are making the most of the chances at their local clubs to plot for an individual honour –a gong to add to the trophy cabinet at season’s end at least.
Since Modou Njie-Sarr odds defying feat of fifteen-goal in a single season – a record that still stands uncompleted dating in 2012 – no one striker within the twelve clubs in a combined 216 players –if only the 18-man squads are to be counted –has come close to beating Njie’s feat.
But some emerging goal marksmen are at least trailing the towering goal record in the hope to eventually match or dislodge it. Such prospects are Musa Barrow and Pa Omar Babou –U-20s vice captain.
Musa tops the chart on eight goals in a combined 1,440 minutes that his Banjul-based fast-improving Hawks Football Club have played in sixteen matches in the league alone.
A box of tricks at defence, Barrow has been leading the line for a side that were best categorized relegation candidates in recent seasons, not hesitating to pull the trigger when a chance comes begging.
His goals are one of reasons for Hawks’ reverse in fortunes, as they now sit fourth in the standings, though a massive ten points behind leaders Gambia Ports Authority.
While snatching the league title is football-wise still within their reach but would take some serious daring to dream big and luck dose to their side, Hawks will still have striker to thank for when the campaign end.
He’d been scoring goals but drew attentions when he clattered four goals in a match to seal Wallidan’s 5-0 annihilation stamp. That placed him second at the time in the goal chart before netting four others to leapfrog close contender Pa Omar Babou who’s on six goals. Babou though has ample time to notch up few more other goals and has six games to do that if his sight is fixed on clinching the golden boot.
Mustapha Drammeh of Bombada occupies third on five goals closely followed by Samger’s Mamdi Ngum who’s on four along with Bubacarr Jallow’s Gamtel and Brikama’s Saikou Ceesay.
