By Mustapha Jallow Mr. Mambury Njie, a former Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, who was re-arrested and detained at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) since on the 9 October, 2014, has now spent 16 days in detention, exceeding the 72 hours required by the Constitution. According to a source, the family is allowed access to him at the NIA Headquarters in Banjul, adding that the reason (s) for his arrest and long detention are not yet known to them. Efforts to talk to the NIA to enquire about the situation of the former Finance and Economic Affairs minister were not successful. It could be recalled that Mr. Njie was earlier acquitted and discharged on two counts of economic crime and neglect of official duty by Justice Mikailu Abdulahi of the special criminal division of the high court in Banjul on 3 July 2014. Prior to Mr. Njie’s arraignment, he was arrested and detained on 25 February 2014 for a much longer period and later granted court bail. ]]>
