Malang Sarjo, a commercial ‘gele gele’ driver, and 18 year old Lamin Sarjo, his apprentice or purser, who are both residing in 
Mandinari in Kombo North, have not been seen by relatives since 9 May 2016, following their reported arrest together with the supporters of the United Democratic Party (UDP).
Amie Badjie, the wife of Malang, the driver, told this reporter at their home in Mandinari yesterday, 6 June, that the commercial vehicle of her husband was hired by the UDP supporters to transport them from the Kombos to Banjul for them to attend the trial of Lawyer Darboe and others.
She said he was arrested on his return from Banjul with the people who hired him
That he and his apprentice were arrested and then taken to Police Intervention Unit (PIU) headquarters.
“On the first day my husband and his apprentice were arrested and taken to the PIU, one of our relatives saw him there and whom he asked to inform me about it,” said the wife.
Mrs. Badjie said they have not seen or heard from him since then. She revealed that her husband is the sole breadwinner in the family and his absence for nearly a month has seriously impacted on the family .
She said his four young daughters are really disturbed by the detention of their father and are always asking how to see him or when he will re unite with them at home.
“His absence is being seriously felt now especially as we commence the fasting month of Ramadan with no one to provide fish money for our meals to break the fast in the evenings,” lamented the wife
She added that her husband is very hard working man and had spent most of his life working as a driver to make ends meet to support his young family.
“My husband does not have any political involvement. He is just a driver whose vehicle was hired to transport people. I am therefore appealing to the authorities to release him as the education of our daughters who are going to school is being affected by the absence of the financial support of their father. I’m appealing for their release in the name of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan,” Mrs. Badjie.
