The detention of Magistrate Surakata Danso of Brikamaba Magistrates’ Court at the serious crime unit at the police headquarters in Banjul clocked two weeks today 14 November 2016.
As reported earlier, Magistrate Danso was arrested by the Brikamaba police on Tuesday 1 November 2016 at his residence in Brikamaba between the hours of 6pm and 7pm and detained at Brikamaba police station during the night of Tuesday.
He was transferred to the serious crime unit at the police headquarters in Banjul on the following day, Wednesday where he is currently detained.
A family source confirmed to this medium that Magistrate Surakata Danso of Brikamaba Magistrate’s Court was arrested and that he is currently been detained at the serious crime unit at the police headquarters in Banjul.
The family source made this confirmation while talking to this reporter on Saturday, adding that the family is yet to know why their loved one is arrested and detained.
The source noted that no charge has been preferred against him as of Saturday.
His continued detention is contrary to the Constitution which stipulates that any person arrested should either be released within 72 hours or be taken to court.
