Kiang West MP Fakebba Colley Dies

Fakebba Colley, a National Assembly Member for Kiang West has died, United Democratic Party’s Secretary General and Executive announced on Saturday. 

Hon. Colley is the second National Assembly Member to have died after the death of MP Demba Sowe last year.

Below is the full statement from UDP, it reads: “The Secretary General, National Executive Committee, and the entire membership of the UDP regret to announce the death of Hon Fakebba Colley, National Assembly Member for Kiang West.”

“This sad news is extended to HE President Adama Barrow, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Mrs. Mariam Denton and all Hon. Members and Staff of the National Assembly and all political party leaders in the Gambia.”

“Hon. Fakebba Colley is a native of Dumboto Village in Kiang, Lower River Region and he was a Founding Member of the UDP. Hon. Colley was amongst the UDP Executive Committee Members that were arrested and imprisoned in 2016 for their peaceful protest demanding for the release of Solo Sandeng dead or Alive.”

“On behalf of the UDP, the Secretary General Lawyer Ousainu Darboe sends heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Colley, the Children, and the entire Kabilo of Hon. Colley in Dumboto.  May Almighty Allah grant them the fortitude to bear this great loss. May Jannatul Firdawsi be the eternal resting place.”

“As a result of this sad incident all prior engagements and scheduled activities of the Secretary General stand suspended until after the funeral of Hon. Colley”

Meanwhile, Hagi Suwaneh, 2nd Vice National Youths Wing of UDP said: “He passed away around 4pm at SerreKunda General hospital. We are on our way to the Mortuary at Serre- Kunda General Hospital.  Funerals arrangements will be announced later.”
