Judicial Service Commission Swears-in Justice M.M Njie as Member

A press statement from the Judiciary of the Gambia dated May 7,2024, announced the swearing in of Justice Omar MM Njie of the Supreme Court, as member of the Judicial Service Commission.

The ceremony,which,according to the statement, marked a significant milestone in the country’s judiciary, was held under the auspices of His Lordship the Chief Justice of The Gambia.

It added that Hon. Justice Omar MM Njie will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the Commission.

“His illustrious career in the legal profession, coupled with a steadfast commitment to justice and fairness, positions him as a valuable addition to the Commission’s esteemed panel. Hon. Justice Njie’s induction into the Judicial Service Commission underscores a commitment to excellence and integrity within The Gambia’s legal fraternity. His appointment reflects a dedication to upholding the highest standards of judicial governance in ensuring equitable access to justice for all citizens,” the statement said.

The Judicial Service Commission is mandated to enhance the judiciary’s efficiency and accessibility through the appointment of judicial officers and by advising the President on judicial appointments, and recommendingthe terms and conditions of service for judges and other judicial officers. The Commission comprises six members.

“The Judicial Service Commission is a vital institution that is tasked with pivotal responsibilities of maintaining the integrity and efficacy of The Gambia’s legal system, and it is chaired by His Lordship the Chief Justice. Comprising six distinguished members, the Commission holds a critical role in safeguarding the principles of justice and upholding the rule of law.

“Additionally, the Commission plays a pivotal role in proposing measures to improve court administration, implementing public education programs on the justice system, and exercising various other functions as conferred on it by the National Assembly.”
