By Muhammed Sailu Bah Inspector Mariama Colley Jarju, Public Relation Officer (PRO) ofInspector Colley-Jarju Gambia Immigration Department (GID), said they had some technical problems which has affected the issuing of national identity cards but that this will be solved very soon. She was talking to this reporter in her office on Monday, 6 July 2015, in response to the concerns raised by some ID card applicants who could not get their applications processed after having paid and issued with receipts as well as those who wanted renewals. “We were having some technical problems with our machines as we all know, machines can go faulty, that’s why we couldn’t issue any ID card but our technicians are working tirelessly in solving the problem and soon we will start issuing ID cards,” she disclosed. PRO Colley-Jarju said applicants can still come forward and pay and be given receipts as their receipt issuing machines are now working. The Immigration PRO also called on the holders of ID cards that have expired to come and pay and be issued with receipts which they can show to any bank or institution which may require their identity. She assured the general public that the GID will soon commence the issuing of ID cards after the machines are fixed. PRO Colley-Jarju however extends their apologies to the general public for any inconvenience caused to those who are in need of the national document. “The general public should also know that we are right now in a peak period where other nationals are coming to regularise their status, that is their Alien ID cards, non Gambian ID cards and Residential Permits. So, therefore, it will take time for applicants to receive their cards quickly as it might go for a month before receiving it,” she concluded.]]>
