In any civilized society contradictions between political parties on the one hand and between the security apparatus and political parties on the other, are not remote possibilities. This is why measures have been taken to prevent such contradictions from becoming antagonistic thus leading to conflicts.

In many societies, political leaders with followers are usually put under house arrest rather than in maximum prisons. The Gambia should emulate such practices to ease political tensions.

Nothing is simpler than for the State to file nolle prosequi to put an end to the court appearance of the UDP leadership.

Intention matters a great deal in distinguishing display of conscience from criminal behavior. The former does not require prosecution. What it requires is keen action to allay fears or address anomalies to provide redress.
