IS THE POSTION OF THE MINISTER OF INFORMATION THE POSITION OF THE
PRESIDENT ON THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC?
The Cabinet operates on the principle of collective responsibility.Minster Sheriff Bojang, the Information Minister has said in no
uncertain terms that the status quo would remain irrespective of the
declaration of The Gambia as an Islamic state. He accused the media in
a number of countries of “scaremongering.” He said one Newspaper in
Guinea “even went to the extent of reporting that the Caliph of the
socalled Islamic State …Abu-Bakr al Baghdadi will visit the Gambia
on January 28.”
The Minister concluded by emphasising that the president believes in
the Qu’ranic injunction that ‘ there shall be no compulsion in
(acceptance of) the religion.
Why is it necessary to go through all these complicated explanations
to make clarifications. The simplest thing to do is to tell the whole
world that The Gambia is a Sovereign Republic.
