Six households with more than 15 occupants in the capital city of Banjul were left homeless after a ravaging fire consumed their 
entire houses and belongings.
The outbreak, which occurred in April 2015 at 12 Louvel Square, affected a building which has six different rooms.
The victims, who are mainly women head of households, told this reporter that they are laundresses who depend on washing and ironing clothes to make ends meet.
Amie Jatta, the eldest amongst the victims, revealed that officials from the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) have visited the place but they are yet to receive any support.
“We are desperately in need of help as we were occupying this small single corrugated iron house with ten inhabitants. The roof and sides were leaking and when it rains the entire house is inundated with water,” she said.
She added that they lost all their clothes and other household belongings to the fire.
“Many of us go out in the morning and only come home when it is time for bed,” said Sanu Jarju.
The victims are appealing for urgent help of any kind from the Government, BCC, NDMA, NGOs, UN agencies and individuals.
