The Banjul High Court presided over by Justice Kumba Sillah-Camara yesterday 18 April, 2017 granted bail to Mr.
Lamin Lang Sanyang the 9th accused person in the criminal case involving former NIA Officials.
Sanyang is granted bail in the sum of D500,000 and that he must produce two Gambian Sureties.
According to the trial judge, the sureties should deposit their title deeds of a landed property within the greater Banjul area with the courts’ registrar. She added that they should swear to an affidavit of means. The accused person should surrender all his travel documents to the courts registrar, the court added.
The ninth accused persons is standing trial on a single charge of Forgery and Making documents without Authority contrary to the laws of The Gambia.
The other accused persons are Yankuba Badjie, the former Director General of the NIA, Louie Richard Leese Gomez, Saikou Omar Jeng, Baboucarr Sallah, Yusupha Jammeh, Haruna Susso, Tamba Mansaray and Lamin Darboe.
They are charged with twelve counts of criminal offences of conspiracy to murder, Murder, Assaults causing actual bodily harm, Conspiracy to commit misdemeanor, Forgery and Making documents without Authority contrary to the laws of The Gambia.
When the case was called, the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DDPP) M.B Abubacarr appeared for the state whilst the defendants were represented by Lawyers U. Achigbue, P. Gomez, Moses Richards, S Kennedy, and D. Dago.
At this stage, the trial judge then informed the court that there is pending bail application before the court. The Deputy Chief prosecutor Abubacarr, said he has been served with it and they are not opposing the application.
In moving the application counsel for the 9th accused D. Dago said they have filed a bail application pursuant to section 19(5) of the constitution and section 99 (1) of the criminal procedure code. He said they are seeking the order of the court to admit the applicant bail pending the hearing and determination of the case. He said they wish to rely on all paragraphs in the affidavit.
In her ruling Justice Sillah-Camara, said she is convinced that the application has merits and that the applicant will not jump bail.
The trial Judge, consequently, admitted him to bail. The case was adjourned till 24th April, 2017 at 12 noon.
