IFJ and GPU trained 15 Gambian Journalists on Safety Online

and bloggers on safety online. The training session was funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Senegal. This workshop designed for Gambian media professionals took place from 25 through 28 November, 2014 in the town of Kaolack, Senegal. Both the opening and closing ceremonies of the session were chaired by Gabriel Baglo, Director of the IFJ Africa office. The President of the GPU, Bai Emil Touray expressed thanks to the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and to the IFJ, and magnified the importance of the workshop which enables them to secure and protect their work and activities online. Gabriel Baglo stressed the need for users in general, media professionals and bloggers in particular to resort to maximum protection and security against any intrusions and multifaceted assaults that occur in the web on daily basis. Last Friday, November 28, 2014, the workshop ended by the delivery of certificate to each participant. On behalf of all recipients, a participant reaffirmed the benefits of the training and the commitment to share the acquired knowledge and know-how with their colleagues when they return home. They also extended thanks to the facilitator for the quality of the training. This series of training in Guinea-Bissau and Gambia is pilot phase of the safety online program that the IFJ has been experimenting for capacity building for journalists.  ]]>
