QUESTION OF THE DAY

The Land Commission does not deal with land disputes that have already been dealt with by courts. The reality is that most of these land disputes have been dealt with by courts, but tension continues after judgment with the unsuccessful party quite often refusing to accept the decision of the court. Sometimes the tension leads to violent clashes when a party uses force to throw out the other from the disputed land. In short, in spite of court judgments, the most controversial cases remain unresolved.

Foroyaa had suggested that the state needs to examine the nature and the characteristics of the different land disputes and put experts together to study the best mechanism to address them. To leave this problem unresolved can only open the way for occasional violent clashes which can become critical if they have ethnic undertones.
