Many homes in Nema Alkali in the Kombo North District, West Coast Region (WCR), have been inundated with water after a heavy downpour of rains in the early hours of Thursday, 1st September 2016 and destroying household and food items in its wake.

Aji Fatou Mboge, a resident of the area and victim of the flood, said most of her household furniture, television sets and foodstuff got destroyed by the rain water.

“I’m presently alone and when the rain started there was no one around to help me as my grandchildren who are staying with me have all gone on holidays. My belongings were floating in the water including one bag of rice and sugar, two television sets, two beds, a set of chairs, clothes and other food items,” said the grandmother.

Aji Mboge, who initially stayed in London Corner, Serekunda, but left the area to her new settlement because of flooding, is still not free from being a victim of such a natural calamity.

She said the area is flood prone but that she has no choice as apartments are very expensive to rent.
