The Ministry of Health has called on Area Councils leadership, District Chiefs, Village Heads and Ward Councilors to support the implementation of the State of Public Emergency Regulations as well as observe safe distancing in their various jurisdictions.
The President of the Gambia on 27th March 2020 declared a State of Public Emergency and also came up with regulations that the public need to observe.
“We would like to renew our call for all Private and commercial vehicle owners as well as motorcyclists to adhere to the regulations in their amended forms,” Dr. Bittaye said.
Dr. Bittaye said they have also received 10 Ventilation machines, 36 thermometer guns, 9,500 medical gloves, 3800 protective face shields 3,790 protective clothing and 18,900 Nucleic Acid Extraction Kits from the Jack Ma and Alibaba Foundation;
“We also received donated items from the Gambia Association of Public Health Officers (GAPHO) consisting of hand sanitizers, bleach, detergents, amongst others and the distribution of donated items to RHDs are on-going,” he said.
Dr. Bittaye recommends all frontline health workers particularly those at the points of entry, quarantine, surveillance, laboratory, Rapid Response, Case Management, Risk Communication and Community Engagement, Logistic and security, and contacts tracing for their sacrifice and dedication to duty.
