QUESTION OF THE DAY

HAS THE IEC BARRED THE HOLDING OF MEETINGS AT THE REGIONAL, CONSTITUENCY AND WARD LEVELS?

In its press release on the holding of meetings at the regional, constituency and ward levels, the Independent Electoral Commission stated among other things that “….all stakeholders who wish to hold rallies within their regions, constituencies, wards, towns or villages should seek for permission and clearance from the IEC Regional Office within the Juridiction.”

In short what the IEC is saying is that it is in charge of matters during the campaign period from 16 to 29 November and all those who wish to hold political meetings should obtain permission from it before doing so. Those who had already planned to have meetings or have already started their meetings cannot proceed with their meetings without seeking the permission of the IEC.
