All roads led to South Coast last Friday after Gunjur gunned down City Boys Banjul to grab the FIB sponsored 
Super Nawettan title that has, until this year, stayed within the Greater Banjul.
A last-gasp spot-kick driven home by a certain Malang Jassey sent the stadium to cacophonous celebrations, delivering a sigh of relief to the impressive turnout of Gunjur fans who travelled to Bakau as dozens wept in joy, unashamedly.
That penalty, unleashed six minutes to end of regular time and that had the Banjul keeper going the wrong end, would break the jinx of sides outside of greater Banjul area failing at the death with the title right under their noses.
East, Banjul, West and Bakau had shared the title these years but Jassey’s spot-kick brought death to that hoodoo, having Gunjur believe the impossible in fact means I’m-possible.
Banjul stamped their authority early after only sixteen minutes ticked after their attacker got bundled in the box by two Gunjur defenders. The referee pointed to the spot and Essa Sowe made the first goal count to get Banjul up and running.
Moments later, Banjul’s technical bench went ballistic after the referee turned down a second penalty appeal.
Malang Jassey should have pulled Gunjur on level snatching the ball off Banjul’s Abdoulie Samba but result of his effort was a disappointing wayward shot off the post.
Salif Bojang sounded the first bang of a possible come back for Gunjur when he found space to beat two Banjul markers letting fly a low drive which Ahmed Savage in goal for Banjul watched. Lamin Jallow, Mbemba Fatty and Malang Jassey ran the show in the middle of the park after the sabbatical, pegging Banjul to retreating to defence.
Gunjur had their way later neutralize the score via Salifou Bojang before Malang Jassey would bury home the final goal six minutes from time after partner Lamin Jallow got tucked by Abdoulie Samba in the box.
The penalty ruling by the referee had the Banjul technical bench going bonkers to the extent a member had to be restrained after charging at the referee before he got sent off later.
Meanwhile, SK East were crowned bronze winners after sashaying over Sukuta on 4-5 penalties after a goalless draw.
Gunjur and Banjul couldn’t secure their prizes owing to the noise which disrupted the presentations.
