GIA MD LANGUISHES IN POLICE DETENTION FOR 57 DAYS NOW

By Mustapha Jallow Since his arrest and subsequent detention at the Brusubi police station in theMD Bakary Nyassi West Coast Region, Mr. Bakary Nyassi, the Managing Director of the Gambia International Airline (GIA) is still held after 57 days without bail or court appearance. Mr. Nyassi’s detention has exceeded the 72 hours period of which a person should be held as required by the 1997 Constitution. A family source has confirmed to Foroyaa that Mr Nyassi is still detained at the Brusubi Police Station and has not been granted bail or taken to a court. The source further indicated that although some family members have access to him, but they do not know why he was arrested and still being held. “We have even expected that he was going to be released from detention before the feast of Eid-Ul-Adha to enable him to rejoin his family. We are appealing to the authorities to release him as he is the breadwinner of his family,” said the relative. Mr Nyassi was arrested on 19 August, 2014 when he was on the verge of travelling abroad for further studies.  ]]>
