By Sulayman Bah A Gambian has been appointed to officiate at the Federation Internationale Natation (FINA) World Masters Championship. Yorro Njie, who‘s Secretary General of Gambia Swimming Sports Association, becomes the first ever Gambian to get picked by the FINA as an international technical official. The event is scheduled for Kazan in Russia from 5th -16th August. Bidding farewell to Njie at the University of the Gambia Law Faculty Hall, Kanifing, Bakary Jammeh, assistant SG, expressed delight over the appointment, saying he is not surprised by the development giving Njie’s contribution to swimming in the Gambia. Weighing in, both Amadou Danso, 1st Vice President, and Arfang Jobe, technical director of the association, echoed similar remarks. There is increased optimism over next month’s event with the championship aimed at promoting aquatic sports and healthy lifestyle. While the World Championships will create the opportunity to elevate the sport to higher levels of prominence within Russia, it is hoped it will produce a new group of international champions in swimming.]]>
