Gambia Football Federation have raced ahead of Germany to invite refuge-turned Hamburg winger Bakery Jatta.

It followed Germany’s interest to incorporate the Gunjur-born who arrived in the European capital an unaccompanied minor in their squad for next year’s Olympics.

Jatta’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed prompting the Germany U-23s gaffer to talk their FA to pursue convincing the fast winger to play for them.

However, Gambia have raced ahead of the European country by inviting the player for the Scorpions’ November match with Angola, including him in a provisional 36-man roster comprising thirteen strikers.

The GFF stood by the player during torrid moments he faced allegations of fraud hurled at him by the German press –charges he is still trying to fight off.

And having stepped in during those times, Gambia hope the striker return to favour by committing his allegiance to coach Tom Saintfiet and the Scorpions.

He certainly would face stiff competition for places with Gambia spoiled for choice in attack.
He will face competition from Nuha Marong, Lamin Jallow, Musa Barrow, Ali Sowe, Assan Ceesay and Muhammed Badamosi all established strikers in their respective foreign clubs.
Gambia have only the Africa Cup of Nations to battle for having gotten dumped in the campaign for the 2022 World Cup by Angola, who they now face.
