Coach Omar Sise is left baffled over the appointed Benin game referee’s decisions to deny the scorpions three goals
in their defeat to Guinea.
According to the former Feni Soccer tactician, the referee threw the game at Gambia’s face, giving seventy-five percent to the hosts and twenty to his troop of soldiers.
‘We scored. I cannot blame the referee for rejecting our goals unnecessarily. Hundred percent of the whistle he blew. He gave 75 percent to Guinea. We have only twenty percent. I don’t think African football can go this way. For my boys, is not the end of the day. They are determined and ready to play. We will look forward to what is ahead of us. I will thank all the Gambians who have been playing for us. We are so sorry that we couldn’t bring the smile that we promised. But is not end of the day. But the same time I’m very proud of my boys. Thanks to everybody. The GFF , Gambian media, public, the ministry , the government, for helping in this campaign. Unfortunately we couldn’t get to Zambia. I think if these boys are kept together they will bring something for Gambian football,’ he said.
Gambia got jettisoned off in the AYC qualifiers by Guinea Conakry, successfully bringing to a total breakdown coach Omar Sise’s plans of reaching the Zambia finals.
The first-leg ended zero-apiece to either side in Banjul but the elephants of Guinea turned the tie around in Conakry albeit, according to reports monitored, with help of poor refereeing.
Striker Omar Jobe scored his second goal in the qualifiers from the spot-kick –after the first against Sierra Leone – but it proved a mere consolation after Guinea scored twice.
However the match did not end without controversial decisions after the referee ruled out three Gambian goals.
Victory would have seen Gambia make a return to the Africa youth tournament after getting banned for two year in 2014 over age-cheating.
