FATAL ROAD ACCIDENT CLAIMS 9 LIVES, 3 SERIOUSLY INJURED

A fatal road accident which occurred along the Brufut/ Tanji highway on Friday, 4 November 2016, claimed the lives of 9 people with 3 others seriously injured. The accident which involved a passenger van and a Volvo truck, occurred between 5:30 am and 6:00 am.

According to the police PRO, Inspector Foday Conta, the passenger van with the registration number BJL 8579 J, which was carrying 12 passengers, including the driver and the purser (apprentice), collided with the Volvo truck with the registration number (BJL 9420 K). He confirmed the 9 lives that were lost in the accident, including the driver and the purser (apprentice). He said the 3 who sustained serious injuries are currently admitted at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) for treatment.

The police PRO added that the truck driver, Basiru Jallow, age 26 of Brufut, is under police custody and helping them in their investigation.

Inspector Conta said the Inspector General of Police is hereby reminding all drivers and users of public highways to be extra careful in the way they use the road as the life they save maybe theirs.

Some eyewitnesses at the scene stressed the need for a speed limit along the Brufut /Tanji highway as accidents of this nature are becoming common there. They also recommended for truck drivers to be given time to use the road to avoid serious accidents.
