By Mustapha Jallow As Sunday, 19 October, 2014, marks the 40th day charity of the late Demba Demba NdowNdow, a resident of Kanifing Estate who passed away following an encounter he had with a member of the Gambia Armed Forces, family members of the deceased are appealing to the authorities to provide them with the post mortem report of their loved one. According to the family, the concerned authorities have promised to provide them with a copy of the postmortem report, but this is yet to happen. Demba reportedly met his death following an encounter he had with Lance Corporal Lamin Jarju. A family member said, “Sunday is Demba’s 40th day charity and there has not been any fact yet as to what caused his death,” the family said. “We wouldn’t relent until justice is done on this matter, but we are not happy with the way the case is being handled.” The Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Gambia Armed Forces, 2Lt. Malick Sanyang, was asked by this reporter to explain the state of the investigations regarding the case, but he promised to get back to this paper as he was on the verge of leaving out of town. Following the incident which presumably contributed to the death of Demba on Wednesday, 10 September, the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) on 23 September, 2014, issued a press release indicating that Lance Corporal Lamin S. Jarju is wanted for murder. The release further stated that “the effort and support of every law abiding citizen especially the Sister Security Services regarding this matter will be highly appreciated.”]]>
