Mr. Fafa Sanyang, the former Commissioner of Petroleum, who was granted court bail, is still being held at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) headquarters in Banjul for six weeks now, according to his counsel.
Lawyer Lamin S. Camara confirmed to this reporter at his chambers in Banjul yesterday, 26 October, 2016, that his client is still under detention at the NIA.
Mr. Sanyang is one of the officials facing trial in the Gambia National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) case before the special criminal division of the high court.
Asked whether he knows the reason or reasons why his client is still being held, Lawyer Camara responded: “What I can say is he was granted bail by the court but was rearrested and detained and each time there’s a sitting, they used to bring him to the court and later take him back.”
The lawyer also confirmed that Mr. Sanyang’s family is allowed access to him to bring food and other items to the Agency’s head office.
