Ebriama Jawara, 3 others face 32 charges

The criminal division of the Banjul High Court on 14th March 2016, mentioned a criminal case involving  Ebriama Jawara 1st Ebrima Jawara, CPCU Coordinatoraccused, Alasana Bah 2nd accused, Sulayman Manneh 3rd accused  and Hassan Jallow 4th accused. The quartet are charged with 13 counts of economic crime; 5 counts of abuse of office; 6 counts of neglect of official duty contrary to section 113 of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01 Vol 3 revised laws of the Gambia 2009; 2 counts of conspiracy; 3 counts of stealing; 1 count of destroying evidence and 1 count of disobedience of statutory duty contrary to section 115 of the Criminal Code cap 10:01 Vol.3 Laws of The Gambia 2009. Altogether they are charged with 32 counts.

The accused persons and their legal representatives were present. But the case could not proceed because the defence argued that they had just been served and they needed time to consult their clients. They were also not pleased with the specificity of the charge.

The defense counsels are M. Drammeh, B. Touray, A. Sisay and S. Gaye.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) posited that defence counsels knew what type of work is awaiting them, so time should not be an excuse. The DPP then submitted that the matter be stood down for 30 minutes for the defence counsels to do the necessary consultations.

The sitting judge ruled out the submission and the case was adjourned till the 17th of March 2016 at 12: Noon
