The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Gambia, Hon. Seedy SK Njie, has been honored with the Men of Honour Award (MOHA) by the GloMay Alliance Company Limited in Nigeria recently.
The MOHA, a prestigious accolade, celebrates distinguished men of honor, acknowledging their outstanding achievements and impact in various fields. The award emphasizes disciplined and consistent exemplary leadership qualities, reflecting visible feats and contributions to society.
During the award presentation ceremony, Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon highlighted the significance of the award, stating that it recognizes individuals who have worked tirelessly to uphold the nation’s integrity and positively impact lives through their roles in offices, platforms, and businesses.
“The Men of Honour Award is all about distinguished men of great worth, individuals who have inspired others to greater works and have made significant contributions to society,” explained Hon. Jatta.
He further emphasized that the award acknowledges men of purpose, impact and relevance, particularly those who contribute meaningfully to job creation, youth and women empowerment, community development, and humanitarian services.
Expressing gratitude for the honor, Deputy Speaker Hon. Seedy SK Njie commended the Offices of Clerk, Speaker, and the Gambia High Commissioner to Nigeria for their roles in receiving the award on behalf of the National Assembly. He acknowledged the challenge presented by the award, encouraging a redoubling of efforts and commitment to serving the country.
“I am encouraged by the award. It is a huge challenge that we need to do more and redouble our efforts and commitment to serving the country, our commitment to our people, and our commitment to being equal to the task and delivering what is expected of us as servants of the people,” stated Hon. Njie.
Dedicating the award to the President, National Assembly Speaker, lawmakers, and the Gambian people, Hon. Njie highlighted the privilege and responsibility of legislative duties. He stressed the daunting nature of representation but emphasized the need for assertiveness, uprightness and dedication to duty.
In his reflection on the achievement, Majority Leader Hon. Billay G Tunkara remarked, “It is a moment to reflect, a moment to emulate, and a moment for us to know that nothing is impossible.” He emphasized that the recognition of a Gambian leader on the African continent signifies the watchful eyes on the country’s representatives, both within and beyond its borders.
