When The Gambia had cordial relations with Taiwan and money was flowing fast into The Gambia, Foroyaa indicated that the APRC government was engaged in cheque book diplomacy. But President Jammeh expressed a different opinion. As far as he was concerned he was defending a principle, the national sovereignty of Taiwan and he did that up to the level of the UN.
But now he has reversed his decision and The Gambia now recognises Taiwan as an inalienable part of China’s territory and that there is only one China. Has the two China ‘principle’ been forgotten? Wonders shall never end.
