Rarely are teams scored five times in Gambia’s top tier but the trend is changing after Hawks’ bullying of Wallidan before Brikama United latest drubbing of Samger.
The Sateba Boys gave gaffer Jane Joof’s men a taste of what it’s like to be on the receiving end of floodgate of goals. Though the Academy Boys got to score one goal but it proved wholly insufficient to spark any hope of a comeback as Brikama ran riot 5-1.
Neighbours Bombada also enhanced their push for survival, beating Serrekunda United 2-1 while Banjul United and Steve Biko drew one-all. Hawks were tied down to 1-1 score by fifth-placed league champions Gamtel. Ports Authority in another fixture were back to their usual point-picking routine, caning Wallidan 2-1 in a capital derby.
In separate development, a Pa Omar Jobe’s first –half strike was more than enough to seal all points for Real de Banjul as they dumped Gambia Armed Forces out of the FA Cup. The All Whites now face Gambia Ports Authority April 13th in another grudged match.
The two have met twice with Real losing to the league table-toppers and drawing the other. They will however hope for a sweet revenge on Ports at the Banjul Mini-stadium with the winner to take on either FF Cup holders Wallidan or Hawks in the quarter-finals.
