Biri Biri is the name the whole world knows. His real name is Alhaji Momodou Njie. His generation was inspired by another legend Pele of Brazil. In a world which looked down on those of African origin , universally acclaimed knowledge and skills were the tools to break the thick walls of social exclusions. Human kind must acknowledge the role Africans like Biri Biri and those of African descent like Pele played in changing mind sets by being a show case of talent.

Sportsmen and women have brought joy to the hearts of men and women of all nationalities, colour , gender or religions . They have broken the barriers between peoples and made the world a universal home for all to enjoy moment of joy, excitement and happiness.

As we mourn his death as a national hero, who raised the flag of the Gambia high in Spain in particular and Europe in general when no facility existed at home to nurse and nurture talent, his role as a sports ambassador should never be forgotten. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Foroyaa joins the nation in mourning the great loss.
