Gambia has been bolstered with the arrival of a new striker Bakary Njie who has accepted to play for the 
Scorpions.
Njie, Born in Mataro Spain with Gambian parentage, has been on the wish-list of Football House since the days of the erstwhile Scorpions gaffer Paul Put.
However after years of courting, the former Espanyol attacker has finally accepted overtures from the motherland and is now likely to feature in the Scorpions’ tie against Zambia’s Chipolopolo and South Africa in May and June, Foroyaa Sport revealed.
‘Today I have just been told news too big for me and super motivating to continue to love this sport and feel proud of it. I’ve been summoned to play for The Gambia,’ Njie, who has become the first Gambian to play in La Liga of recent, announced enthusiastically.
‘I have no words (to express how happy I am). For me it is a pride to be able to play for my country to defend and show off that shirt – this country that is worth so much to me,’ he says.
The left-footed powerful forward will be one of the newest additions to the Scorpions setup when Gambia plays the Bafana Bafana and will be tasked with easing scoring responsibility off on Pa Dibba’s shoulders.
With pace, power and tricks, his weapons, Bakary –referred to Spain as Bubacarr –boasts of 91 career goals in six of the clubs he had played for in a combined 175 league appearances, better than Ousman Jallow (40 goals in 149 matches), Demba Savage (68 goals in 183 matches), Mustapha Carayol (28 goals in 170 matches) and Modou Barrow (13 goals in 95 career matches), according to findings by Foroyaa Sport.
While the majority of goals scored by the defender-turned striker came through playing for Espanyol, Real Valadollid and Mataro B teams, Njie still has a better goal ratio than the men he will be competing for the forward role: Pa Amat Dibba or Bubacarr Trawally.
Only last week, Friday, Bakary, dubbed Kambi, added one year to his initial three year deal with Bulgarian Premier League side Cherno More Varna.
The 28-year-old front-man’s new deal brings to an end the wild speculations delinking the player away from Cherno More Varna.
His goal ratio could have soared if it were not for an ankle and knee injuries that ruled him for close to one year.
The Hspitalet CF goal-getter resumed playing only this year and has made ten appearances scoring thrice this season.
