Foroyaa has been informed that some female police officers as well as
female military personnel have been under detention at the Yundum
police station and the Fajara training school respectively on thesuspicion of skin bleaching.
In trying to ascertain the information, this reporter made efforts to
visit the two stated places on Monday, January 25, 2016.
Meeting the Station Officer of Yundum Police station after being asked
about the fate of the female police officers as to whether they are in
his custody, his response was “No, not here.”
The spokesperson of the Gambia Police Force, when contacted, said such
information is not to his knowledge. He promised that he will get back
to this reporter after making findings on the matter.
However, he did not call back and was not also picking calls from the
reporter when he was contacted.
Proceeding to the Fajara barracks, a military person met on duty
there told this reporter that he could not see the commanding officer
in charge of the barracks. He, however, advised the reporter to first
go to the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) headquarters in Banjul for a
directive from there to the commanding officer and after which he
could be met for any comment.
