Senegalese wrestling star Ama Balde Saturday stormed the Serrekunda
West mini-stadium twenty-four hours after arriving in the country.
In an action-packed night of feisty wrestling never lacking gingering
effect, despite the controversy that would later beset the occasion,
it was the visiting Ama Balde who stole the headlines with his
enticing ‘touss’ (new dance).
The Pikine-born apparently without a bout after his recent triumph
over a much heralded Malick Niang is on a deserved sabbatical making
much of the moment with a visit to his Gambia-based fans.
On the invitation of Nazir Promotion – the country’s newest wrestling
promoting brand – Ama didn’t hold back and the blizzard of spectator
who turned out would have been forgiven to think he was to fight on
the night.
Donning a black sweater with a tiger crest to the chest teamed with a
round LA cap, Ama waded his way past a mass of followers. Pulling off
his sweater to show underwear top as the second picture shows, he
danced feverishly to send fans berserk.
Elsewhere in Bakau, Luniburg rode past Seaview/Saudi on 7-6 penalties
in the Bakau finals.
In the GFF second tier, Steve Biko pushed further to realising their
promotion aspirations going joint-top of the standings on nine points
with Samger.
Seaview on the brink of being renamed Marimoo, moved second in the
league on the back of a 2-1 win over Young Africans. Lamin United got
the better of Tallinding United whom they walloped 4-2.
Meanwhile, top flight side Wallidan is mourning the demise of the
club’s founding father Uncle Alhagie Babou Sowe.
And finally, Gambia international Sulayman Marreh has been ruled out
for up to eight weeks after tearing a tendon in his right foot. The
19-year-old is due to undergo an operation to correct the tear. Follow
