Press Statement
The Sports Journalists’ Association of The Gambia (SJAG) has began
preparations for its 6th Annual Award Ceremony, in which among other
things they award present and past sports personalities in recognition
of their enormous contribution to sports in the country.
The fundamental mission and vision of the Sports Journalist
Association is to enhance and develop Sports Journalism in The Gambia
to the highest level possible.
According to the association’s Assistant Secretary General, Alieu
Ceesay, the association has already set-up an Awards Committee,
chaired by Acting President, Musa Sise with sub-committees that will
be working in ensuring a ceremony with a difference, slated to take
place in March, 2015.
The sub-committees are Marketing and Publicity sub-committee chaired
by SJAG 2nd vice president Uthman Jeng and assisted by Mama Faal; the
Production sub-committee that will work on video documentaries on
awardees is chaired by Abdoulie Nget and assisted by Rohey Bittaye;
and the Protocol sub-committee comprises members of the female sports
journalists.
The award committee comprises representatives from all media houses
because the executive wants to make sure that all media houses have equal representation in whatever the association is doing.
According Assistant SG Ceesay said the committee has begun meeting
potential institutions and individuals for them to come on board to
join the sports journalists to celebrate and recognize The Gambia’s
sports personalities. Renowned guests, from within and outside the country
are expected to grace this year’s awards, which is now growing bigger
year in, year out.
Ceesay seized the opportunity to once again urge the sports
journalists that have not settled their membership status with
the association to come forward and do so, noting that many members have
already registered with the association.
“The institutions and individuals that want to partner with
the association in this award ceremony can contact 7750073, 3813805,
6693424, or 7493424.”
